Post ELD Registration Process Required for HOS

Ensuring Correct Lifetime Odometer and Engine Time values for FMCSA and CCMTA on DTCore prior to version 6.10.39
requires the Driver or Personnel to perform the following Immediately after registering the TruckPC ELD.

** Upgrading to the latest ELD Software version will eliminate the need to perform this procedure.

Steps to perform after (re)registration of the ELD:

  1. On the ELD, go to System Info and view the JBUS screen/tab.

  2. Turn engine ON and wait for  the odometer on the ELD to populate with a non-zero value.
Note: This can take ~5 minutes.

  3. Turn the engine OFF and wait for at least 2 minutes.

  4. Then turn the engine ON again for at least 10 seconds.

Background:

A vehicle’s JBUS does not always report Lifetime Odometer or Engine values immediately after Key-On or starting the vehicle. This is complicated when there are multiple JBUS source addresses from which the ELD may obtain these values.

The following describes this situation and why the above steps should be taken immediately after registering the TruckPC ELD:

  1. When an ELD is re-registered the JBUS source address filtering causes delays to receiving the odometer and engine time if those parameters are available from multiple source addresses. In the case that a truck has two sources on the JBUS for odometer, but the preferred source comes at a slower rate or is not heard first on the bus by the ELD - the ELD will ignore odometer for 5 minutes, possibly longer in extraordinary cases.
  2. The ELD immediately sends 'engine' on events without waiting for the odometer to become available from the JBUS.

DriverTech has increased your ELDs GPS polling interval to a 10-minute frequency

NOTE: Only those accounts with a current frequency between 11 and 20 minutes have been updated. Accounts with Vehicle Settings Groups configured for 21+ minutes were not changed.
Please contact Support@DriverTech.com if you would also like your GPS polling interval to less than 20minutes.

This change is to ensure alignment with both IRP and IFTA 2024 requirements while providing carriers with heightened precision in tax reporting and many other Track and Trace use cases.

The augmented GPS location polling will impact some reports in addition to Regional Crossing and State Mileage. Integrations and other connected systems will begin receiving the additional records immediately upon the change taking place which will slightly increase the load on those systems.

These changes do not impact:

  • HOS Intermediate Positions, Trip Detail, or Deceleration reports.

    • (For further details on these reports, please refer to the Help Topics section.)

  • Accounts that are presently collecting this data more often than every 10 minutes, will remain unaffected by this adjustment and continue with their current interval.

For any inquiries regarding these changes, please reach out to the DriverTech support team at Support@DriverTech.com.
