  2. How-to Start Your Day

    Step-by-step guide

    1. Turn on your ignition
    2. Log in with your driver code, then touch "Submit"
    3. Type in your password (if required) and touch "Submit".
    4. Touch "Confirm".

    Enter an ON-DUTY STATUS

    1. Touch the "HOS" button.
    2. Touch "On-duty" which is located at the bottom of your screen.


    3. Touch the "BOL" field.


    4. Type in the BOL number.
    5. Touch "Submit" – THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT STEP OF ENTERING ANY STATUS.
    6. Touch the "Trailer" field.
    7. Type in the trailer number.
    8. Touch "Submit" – THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT STEP OF ENTERING ANY STATUS.
    9. Touch "Submit" again.
    10. Touch "Yes" when asked "Is this the beginning of your shift?"
    11. Touch "Submit" – THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT STEP OF ENTERING ANY STATUS.
    12. You are now On-duty.

     

    To Certify Yesterday's Log 

    1. Touch the "Logs" tab at the top of the HOS screen.
       
    2. Open the graph for the previous day (09/26 in this example) by touching on that date.
    3. Touch the "Certify" button on the right hand side of the screen.
    4. Touch "Agree".
    5. Your logs for the date selected are now certified. You can verify this by the green check mark next to the date.

    You are NOW logged in but you are still most likely in Off-Duty

    ENTER an ON-DUTY STATUS

    1. Touch HOS button
    2. Touch On-Duty - Which is located at the bottom of your screen.
    3. Touch on the BOL field
    4. Type in the BOL number
    5. Touch "Submit" – THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT STEP OF ENTERING ANY STATUS
    6. Touch the "Trailer" field
    7. Type in the trailer number
    8. Touch "Submit" – THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT STEP OF ENTERING ANY STATUS
    9. Touch "Yes" when asked "Is this the beginning of your shift?"
    10. Touch "Submit" – THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT STEP OF ENTERING ANY STATUS

     

    TO CERTIFY YESTERDAY'S LOG

    1. Touch on the "Logs" tab located at the top of the screen
    2. Open the graph for the previous day.
    3. Touch on the previous day's date.
    4. Touch "Certify"
    5. Touch "Yes"
    6. Your log for the date selected is now certified. You can verify this by seeing the green check mark next to the date.

  4. How-to go into On-Duty

    Step-by-step guide

    1. Touch "HOS" button
    2. Touch "On-Duty" - Which is located at the bottom of your screen.
    3. Touch on the "BOL" field
    4. Type in the "BOL" number
    5. Touch "Submit" – THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT STEP OF ENTERING ANY STATUS
    6. Touch the "Trailer" field
    7. Type in the trailer number
    8. Touch "Submit" – THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT STEP OF ENTERING ANY STATUS
    9. Touch "Submit" again.
    10. Touch "Yes" when asked "Is this the beginning of your shift?" NOTE: IF THIS IS NOT the "Beginning of your Shift" you will not see this page. You will be taken the "Select Remark" page. Touch the Remark you would like on your On-Duty status and then Touch "Submit"
    11. if this is the beginning of your shift, you will be asked if you want to review the DVIR. 
      1. If there are no issues with the truck and trailer, you can tap "No" there. 
      2. If there is an existing DVIR that you want to review, tap Yes. 
      3. If there are issues with the truck/trailer, you will need to create a DVIR. Click Here for instructions.
    12. If this is not the beginning of your shift, select a Remark. 
    13. If this is the beginning of your shift. Just hit Submit from here
    14. Touch "Submit" – THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT STEP OF ENTERING ANY STATUS

       

     You should now be On-Duty.

  5. How-to Certify Your Logs

    Step-by-step guide

     

    1. Touch the "HOS" icon.

    2.Touch the "Logs" tab at the top of the HOS screen.

    3. Open the graph for the previous day (09/26 in this example) by touching on that date.

    4. Touch the "Certify" button on the right hand side of the screen.

     5.Touch "Agree".

    6. Your logs for the date selected are now certified. You can verify this by the green check mark next to the date.

    Q: Can someone in the company office (other than the driver) certify a driver's logs?

    A: No. Only the driver can certify their own logs.

  6. How-to go On-Duty From the HOS Graph (Text Version)

    Step-by-step guide

    1. From the Graph tab in the HOS application, touch the "Add" button.

      1. If prompted, enter your location into the location field.

    2. Touch "On-Duty" from the list of available duty statuses on the "Select Duty Status" screen.
    3. Enter your BOL, Co-driver (if applicable) and Trailer(s) into the provided fields and touch "Submit."
    4. Answer "Is this the beginning of your shift?" with either "Yes" or "No" and follow the prompts.
    5. Select from the list of remarks on the "Select Remark" page or choose "Other" to add a custom remark.
    6. Follow the prompts and touch "Submit."

      You are now back at the HOS Graph tab and your status is now "On-Duty".

  8. How-to End Your Duty Day

    Step-by-step guide

    1. From the main Menu, select the HOS option

    2. Ending your shift is accomplished by touching "Off-duty" or Sleeper berth" from the "US-8" tab, "Short-haul 100" if you're local.

    3. Touch "End of Shift"
      .
    4. If you need to enter a post-trip inspection (DVIR), touch "Yes" when asked "Enter Driver Vehicle Inspection Report?"
    5. For instructions on entering a DVIR, Click Here

    6. Confirm Off-duty or Sleeper Berth, and end of shift, by touching "Submit".
    7. If your logs are correct and up to date, press "Yes" on the following screen. If not, press "No".
    8. Your duty day has now ended and your log for the day is certified.
    9. If you need to go back on-duty after ending and certifying your day, touch Not Ready. If you don't, touch Agree.

      1. There will be one more confirmation screen to ensure that you do not un-certify your logs by mistake.

  9. How-to End Your Duty Day (Text Version)

    Step-by-step guide

    1. Ending your shift is accomplished by touching "Off-duty" or Sleeper berth" from the "US-8" or "Logs" tab.
    2. Touch "End of Shift"

  10. How-to Create DVIR

    Step-by-step guide

    While a pre-trip inspection is required to be performed by the driver every time they go On-Duty - Beginning of Shift, a DVIR is not required if no defects were found during the inspection.

    For On-Duty instructions. Click Here

    1. The driver is able to Add a DVIR at any time by opening HOS 

      • Tap on the HOS button from the Menu
      • Then select “Options > DVIR"
      • Add DVIR.”
      • Enter a trailer number if necessary, then Submit
      • When you start a DVIR, it will ask if any defects were found during the inspection. If so, press “Yes
      • Enter Locaion, Defect, Remarks. Then Add
      • This step will ask you where the defect is located, and a description of the defect itself. You can also add additional remarks about the defect
      • After choosing “Location”, select where the defect is located. Here we will be selecting “Truck Exterior”. Click on Add
      • Once the defect is added and there are no more defects to submit, touch No
      • After you press “Submit”, you will then be able to view the status and DVIR in the “List” tab for the current day’s log

  11. How-to Review and Certify your DVIR

    Step-by-step guide

    1. Touch "HOS" button
    2. Touch the Options tab, then touch DVIR
    3. Touch the "DVIR" you would like to review
      1. While going through the On-Duty status, if you click "Yes" to review the DVIR, you will be taken to this screen. 
    4. Touch <Select repair status>
    5. Situations will vary. Touch No Repairs Needed or Repairs made. For this example,we'll select Repairs made
    6. Touch Certify
    7. Touch Yes
    8. The defect section will change to "Repairs Made". Under the vehicle review, touch Certify, then touch Yes.

    9. The green check mark indicates that this DVIR has been reviewed, certified, and the reason the DVIR was created is no longer an issue.

  12. How-to Change Trucks

    Step-by-step guide

    1. From the US-8 screen in HOS, touch the "Options" tab.

    2. From the Options menu, touch "Change Trucks".

    3. You will be logged off of the unit after your logs have been received.
    4. If the logs were NOT sent for whatever reason, you will be placed back onto the main HOS screen. Your logs will be sent and you will be logged off as soon as the unit is able to communicate.
    5. If your logs were sent you will see the login screen.
    6. You have now successfully changed trucks and are able to login to a new unit.
    7. To ensure that your HOS logs are transferred, go back to HOS and Options and touch "Request HOS Logs"
    8. Touch "Yes".


      Your logs will now be uploaded to your new unit.

  13. How-to Enter Roadside Audit Mode

    How-to send HOS ELD logs to Enforcement Officer for Roadside Audit

    How-to Enter Roadside Audit Mode” are steps 1 through 5.

    Step-by-step guide

    1. Touch the "HOS" icon.

    2. Touch the "Options" tab. This will bring up the Enforcement View button.

    3. Touch the "Enforcement View" button.
    4. Choose whether or not you would like to use a password to exit the Enforcement View mode after you have completed your tasks in Enforcement View. This option will either require a password to exit Enforcement View or not. 
      If you do not want to enter a password to exit Enforcement View, touch "No". If you would like to use a password to exit Enforcement View, touch "Yes" and follow the prompts to verify your Driver Code Password. NOTE: This password is normally NOT your Driver Code, but instead is a password that was set up by your in office personnel. Ask your Safety personnel for more details.
    5. IMPORTANT NOTE: You will now see an Enforcement View icon in the bottom left hand corner area of your screen. 
      This indicates you are in Enforcement View 
      1. To send your HOS logs to the DOT representative while pulled over or at roadside, touch "Send HOS logs to enforcement".

        Acquire the Unique Identifying(File Comment) from the enforcement officer or DOT representative and enter it in the "File Comment".
        Touch "Submit"

        The enforcement officer or DOT representative should receive the information within moments on his computer, if there is cell or wifi coverage.

    6. COMPLETE: If there is cell or wifi coverage you have successfully sent your HOS logs to the enforcement officer or DOT representative.
      If there is no cell or wifi coverage where you are, you may need to continue to the next step.

    7. To send logs to a mobile device that can be handed to enforcement, touch "Learn how to send to a mobile device that can be handed to enforcement".

      Follow the instructions on the screen.
    8. Example on an iPhone: First enable (turn on) Airplane Mode
    9. Open Wi-Fi settings on mobile device
    10. Associate with DT181614, (your individual number may vary)  enter the password "drivertech"
    11. Select sign in prompt, or navigate to ra.drivertech.com, which will show this display. 
      1. Clarification of "or navigate to ra.drivertech.com
      2. Open a web browser on your phone. On an iPhone, open Safari. On Android, open Chrome
      3. In the address bar (NOT the search bar), type in ra.drivertech.com , tap Go
    12. You may now hand the mobile device to the enforcement officer or DOT representative.

    Addendum:

    Sometimes the mobile device will come up with the following: 

     

    • http://ra.drivertech.com/ is the web address we route the phone to if it is receiving internet.
    • Click on the link above. You will notice that the web page it displays is the message you are currently receiving on your phone.
    • Prior to you connecting to this URL, http://ra.drivertech.com/, and once the phone detects no internet, your phone will route traffic through the DriverTech device, resulting in displaying the HOS logs for the currently logged in driver code.
    • You are seeing this message below because most phones will cache this page and so you may need to clear cache. A lot of the phones are different so it may be a good idea to google it.

    This above information is pertinent if you had a full set of HOS logs.

    If you do not have a full set of HOS logs, such as in a testing/training environment, it can muddy the water.

    • We know there is a bug that occurs when you try to connect to a device with a full set of blank logs.
    • We have also determined that you can see this bug if you have a full 8 days of blank uncertified or certified logs.
    • When trying to back fill log data(so you don’t have blank logs), there is a certain amount of statuses you must have in order to get past this bug.

     

    Best Practices for in office training or connecting to a unit with blank HOS:

    1. Try to connect directly following a reboot
    2. Always use Airplane mode
    3. Before entering Enforcement View on the device and while in Airplane mode, go to ra.drivertech.com once, after you have connected to http://ra.drivertech.com/ when you had internet.

    4. Review the details on the next screen. If correct, touch "Submit".

  17. How-to send HOS ELD logs to Enforcement Officer for Roadside Audit

    1. Touch the "HOS" icon.

  18. How-to Assign a Co-Driver

    1st driver logs in, goes into Sleeper Berth. Or, Driver #1 logs in, goes on duty, then logs out. 
    The current driver always logs in 2nd. Driver #2 then goes into Driving status. 

    Step-by-step guide

     

    1. The co-driver (the person who is not driving first) logs into the unit

    2. The co-driver should enter their desired status (on-duty is most likely)
    3. The co-driver logs out
    4. The driver logs in
    5. The driver goes on-duty
    6. While going on-duty the driver selects the "Co-driver" field
    7. From the "Select Co-Driver" screen select your co-driver's name

    8. After selecting your Co-driver you screen will look similar to this:
    9. Now, as long as the information on this screen is correct, you can select "Submit"
    10. Answer any additional prompts and then select "Submit" again
    11. You now have a co-driver assigned, and can use the "Co-Driver" button on the US-8/Main HOS screen

     

    WARNING: BOTH DRIVERS MUST LOGIN TO THE UNIT WITHIN THE LAST 24 HOURS IN ORDER TO BE SELECTABLE AS THE CO-DRIVER
