Question:

Unable to send Email to and from the Unit

Answer:

  1. Cannot send mail from customer office to truck PCs.

    1. Send mail from customer office to Yahoo and Gmail test accounts, verify that mail gets through.
  2. Cannot send mail from truck PCs to customer office.

    1. Send mail from truck pc to Yahoo and Gmail test accounts, verify that mail gets through.

Some possible items that could be causing problems from the customer office to the truck PCs:

  1. Incorrect or missing PTR record. The PTR record does a reverse lookup from the IP of the mail server to a name associated with that mail server. Check the PTR record with http://mxtoolbox.com/ReverseLookup.aspx, entering the IP of the mail server. The returned value should be something like “mail.customerdomain.com” and is maintained by the ISP, not the customer. (For DriverTech, Production1 (204.246.150.136) returns “mail.truck-pc.net” and Charlie (67.136.42.107) returns “mail.drivertech.com”
  2. Incorrect or missing SPF record. Check the SPF record with http://mxtoolbox.com/spf.aspx, entering the domain name of the customer.
